The association Pró-Escola Semente Vigo was born in June 2013 due to the need for a group of individuals either to find a quality project for their children or interested in language and the education field. Nowadays, around 100 people belong to the association.
Semente Vigo aims to be a quality educational project in Galician for the city of Vigo, as in Semente Compostela, Semente Trasancos, Semente Lugo and Semente Corunha. Why? Because we like what it’s happening there; because we share the same principles: coeducation, secularism, assemblyism, interaction with nature, respect to children’s self-regulation, neighborhood, and city context integration, and in our language.
Semente educational centers are a social non-profits initiative, which intends to set, together with other similar projects, the foundations needed for the creation of the Galician Nacional School.
Their name is taken from the Galician Teaching Schools (Escolas de Ensino Galego) created at the beginning of the XX century by the Irmandades da Fala, promoted by Leandro Carré and Ángelo Casal.
In October 2013 we organized the I Jornadas de Educaçom e Língua, obtaining the selflessly collaboration of professionals as: Séchu Sende, Marta Souto, Anxo Moure, Raúl Piñeiro, Concha Costas, Héctor Canto, Marcos Lopes e Salvador Mourelo.
In order be able to offer free activities for children in our language, we hire na space in Mata Má, where we had the selfless performance of Irene Silva Xiráldez, O Señor Gravata Torta, Adrian Lorenzo e Lukitas Castro Fernandez, A Banda dos Cueiros, Os Beretes de Chapela and the Pandereteiras do C.s. Lume, Servando Barreiro, Cé Orquestra Pantasma and the Bocaneghras.
In April 2014 we celebrated the 1º Festival Infantil supporting Semente Vigo. The performances were delivered by the storyteller Andrea Bayer, the original Pablísimo Contacontos and a Paco Nogueiras concert.
In September 2015 our educational space was inaugurated, in Teis, Doutor Corbal st, 102. Since then, a morning service is provided to the member families, and in the afternoons and Saturdays, we have activities open to all age ranges.
